Riley Horse Campground is in the Mt. Hood National Forest, west of Mt. Hood and 7 miles from Mount Hood Village. The beautiful Sandy River flows near the campground. Most visitors to the campground bring horses for riding the many scenic trails in the area. Among the popular trails is the challenging ride to Ramona Falls.

Riley Horse Campground has 14 campsites for RVs, trailers, and tents. Eleven of the campsites have corrals and the others have tie stalls or hitching rails. Sites 1, 4, 5, 7, and 8 have 4-horse corrals; site 10 has a 2-horse corral. Campground amenities include water for stock, a vault toilet, and manure bins.

General Camping Information

Opening and closing dates of campgrounds are only estimates, usually dependent on weather conditions. Not all campsites can accommodate trailers or RVs of all lengths. Check carefully on the website when you make your reservation to be sure your vehicle will fit your campsite.

In order to prevent the spread of invasive insects, firewood from outside the area is not permitted.

  • Head over to Lost Lake for hiking, boat rentals, and fishing for rainbow trout.
  • From Hood River drive south on Highway 35 for magnificent views of Mt. Hood, nearby peaks, and the wonderful Mt. Hood National Forest.
  • Stop by for a picnic at Toll Bridge Park off Highway 35.
  • Hike to 100-foot Tamanawas Falls. Park at the Tamanawas Falls Trailhead.
  • Visit Mt. Hood Meadows Ski Area for summer fun such as scenic chair lift rides, music, events, and hiking.
  • Spend a day or more at beautiful Trillium Lake with boating, swimming, and fishing.
  • Drive up to Timberline, a famous ski resort on the slopes of Mt. Hood. Timberline. Take a look at historic Timberline Lodge (1937). Enjoy the bike park. Play in summer snow. Ride the Magic Mile Chairlift, discover amazing mountain biking trails, and hike on the Pacific Crest Trail.

Key Riley Horse Campground Regulations

  1. Fires are only permitted in designated fire receptacles and must be attended. Fires must be extinguished upon departure.
  2. Pets must be kept on leash and attended at all times.
  3. Quiet Hours extend from 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM.
  4. Prevent the spread of invasive pests by obtaining firewood locally.
  5. Secure food and scented items from bears.
