Clackamas Lake Campground

Clackamas Lake Campground is on the shore of 3-acre Clackamas Lake in the Mt. Hood National Forest. Nearby is lush Joe Graham Meadow (shown above). Visitors to the area enjoy fishing, non-motorized boating, hiking, and swimming. With a number of equestrian campsites in the campground, horseback riding is quite popular. The campground provides a nice alternative when nearby Timothy Lake campgrounds are full.

Clackamas Lake Campground has 46 campsites. Ten of the campsites can accommodate RVs, trailers, and tents. Another 25 sites are designated for tents. Eleven horse campsites are provided for those camping with horses. A mature pine forest covers most of the campsites with good shade.

Horse Campsites

Campsites #2, 4, 6, 7, 8, 12, 14, 17, 18 and 19 are designated for those with horses.

  • Campsites #4, 6, and 18 have 4 stalls each and are intended for those with between 3 to 4 horses.
  • Campsites #2 and 14 have 3 stalls each for between 2-3 horses.
  • Campsites 7, 8, 12, 17, and 19 have 2 stalls each for between 1-2 horses.

Sites 1, 3, 10, 11, and 15 also allow horses but have no corrals.

  • The 2.2-mile Miller Trail begins in the campground and connects to the Pacific Crest Trail.
  • Other trails lead to scenic Little Crater Lake and into the Mt. Jefferson Wilderness.

General Camping Information

Opening and closing dates for some campgrounds are only estimates, usually dependent on weather conditions. Not all campsites can accommodate trailers or RVs of all lengths.

Designated Accessible sites are usually reserved for people with disabilities who have a vehicle displaying an accessible parking placard or license plate.

Attractions and Activities

  • Hike, mountain bike, or horseback ride on the Timothy Lake Trail which circles the lake, offering 12 miles of fairly level terrain and many nice views.
  • Hike on the nearby Pacific Crest Trail.
  • Fish for trout in Timothy Lake from shore or boat.
  • Enjoy a picnic at scenic Pine Point Day Use Area on Timothy Lake's west shore.
  • Make the short trip to Little Crater Lake. A barrier-free 800-foot long trail leads to a viewing platform.
  • Visit the nearby Clackamas Lake Historic Ranger District, a Forest Service facility built in the early 1900s.
  • Spend a day or more at beautiful Trillium Lake with boating, swimming, and fishing.

Key Clackamas Lake Campground Regulations

  1. Quiet Hours extend from 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM.
  2. Prevent the spread of invasive pests by obtaining firewood locally.
  3. Fires are only permitted in designated fire receptacles and must be attended. Fires must be extinguished upon departure.
  4. Pets must be kept on leash and attended at all times.
  5. Secure food and scented items from bears.
