Eagle Creek Campground
Eagle Creek Campground is honored as the first National Forest campground in the United States. The campground was established in 1916 in the Columbia River Gorge, 2 miles east of Bonneville. The campground sits on a bluff above Eagle Creek and the Columbia River. Visitors to the campground enjoy hiking the Eagle Creek Trail past waterfalls and along basalt cliffs. Experience spectacular views of the Columbia River Gorge from Wauna Point or Buck Point. All the wonders of the Columbia River Gorge are easy to reach from the campground.
Eagle Creek Campground has 16 campsites for tents and small RVs or trailers. Most of the campsites may be reserved, but several are kept available as first-come, first-served sites. The well-spaced campsites are set among towering trees. Each campsite can accommodate up to 12 people. The campground is well back from the freeway, but, nevertheless, if railroad and freeway sounds are a concern, bypass campsites 7 - 14 to find quieter sites. Eagle Creek Overlook Group Camp is located on the other side of the freeway.
Note that recent wildfires have closed some hiking trails in the area.
