Indian Ridge Lookout

Indian Ridge Lookout stands atop a 30-foot tower south of Cougar Reservoir (shown above) in the Willamette National Forest. Erected in 1958 as a fire lookout, it is now offered as a Forest Service rental. Views from the lookout include the Three Sisters, Hidden Lake, and the Cascade Range to the north and south. Nearby are popular hiking and mountain biking trails.

Cabin Features

The 16 x 24-foot, 2-room cabin comes with 2 twin beds with mattresses, a sofa bed, desk, table and chairs, wood stove, and cleaning supplies. Outside is a 45-foot diameter horse corral, an outhouse, fire ring, and picnic table. Electricity, firewood and potable water are not provided.

What Guests Need to Bring

Guests need to bring their own water for drinking, cooking, and cleaning. They also must supply for own bedding or sleeping bags, propane camp stove, cookware, matches, flashlights and battery operated lanterns, toilet paper, and garbage bags. If firewood is needed for the wood stove, obtain it locally to avoid bringing outside pests into the forest. Guests must clean the cabin upon departure and take everything, including garbage and food.

Guests should contact the McKenzie River Ranger District: (541-822-3381) prior to arriving to check on any restrictions or conditions that may affect their visit.

Key Indian Ridge Lookout Regulations

  1. Smoking is not allowed in the cabin.
  2. Pets and livestock are not allowed in the site.
  3. No camping, trailers, or RVs are permitted at the cabin.
  4. Obtain firewood from near the cabin location. Bringing in wood from outside the area can carry harmful pests to the forest.
  5. The cabin must be thoroughly cleaned before departure. Leave behind no food or other items you brought to the cabin.
  6. Due to the height of the tower and the sheer cliffs near the lookout, this location is not recommended for small children.
